Romania – into the future with Banat Solar

With 800 gigawatt hours of solar energy per year, we will supply around 200,000 households with renewable electricity and save around 500 million tons of CO2 in the process.

The Zimmermann family has been shaping the agricultural landscape in picturesque Banat for over 20 years. With a clear focus on sustainability and resource conservation, they have successfully transformed over 7,000 hectares of fallow land into fertile farmland in their company banat farming using state-of-the-art agricultural technology and innovative cultivation methods.

The Zimmermanns are ready to set new goals and take responsibility for the growth that will secure the future of the people and the region. With the positive experiences from the past, the family business has decided to take a further step towards sustainable development with banat solar jamu mare.

In order to successfully implement this vision, the family sought out two strong partners in 2022 and founded dragon new energy holding GmbH. The three founders combine access to suitable, contiguous land, the ability to procure the necessary equipment, the expertise to develop and build the plant and to market the electricity generated. By pooling their strengths, a company was created that is capable of successfully implementing a project of this magnitude. The aim is to use low-value agricultural land in the region for photovoltaic production.

Important milestones have already been reached:

  • Long-term leases until 2063 for almost 800 hectares of land
  • Topographical and pedological studies have shown that the areas are very suitable for solar parks
  • Land planning certificates were successfully issued
  • The application for grid connection has been submitted
  • Initial layouts and rough planning envisage approx. 700 MWp DC and 525 MWp AC with a total investment volume of approx. 400 million euros

We draw our expertise from decades of international, independent management of companies in the logistics, IT and financial services, food, wholesale and retail, gastronomy and commercial real estate sectors. Our in-depth knowledge of the financial markets and capital procurement forms the basis for profitable, future-oriented projects.

FAMOUS has been successfully developing and implementing projects with Chinese companies for over 30 years and has also carried out internationally renowned projects during this time, such as the relocation of the entire Kaiserstuhl coking plant to China. FAMOUS is currently supporting Chinese energy companies in setting up renewable energy projects in Europe. These are large-scale projects in which the Chinese partners contribute the engineering, procurement, construction and financing.

With its founder and managing director Michael Veit, wavecapital has stood for expertise in the energy industry with a focus on business development and sales for almost 20 years. Michael worked for 12 years as managing director and board member in various energy suppliers in Germany, including as authorized signatory and managing director in the SWK Städtische Werke Krefeld Group, as sales director at TEAG and most recently as CRO at LEAG. The other 8 years he worked as a management consultant for various companies, most recently as a partner at Capgemini Invent. In this role, he advised energy suppliers in the areas of digitalization and sales. Michael takes over the operational management and project management at Dragon and Banat.
